Located in the heart of Oceanside, the Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) is a vibrant cultural destination dedicated to showcasing the art and stories of Southern California artists. Through dynamic exhibitions and engaging programs, OMA brings people together to explore creativity, inspire imagination, and connect through art.
A Mission to Inspire Through Art
OMA’s mission is to unite the community through meaningful artistic experiences. With a vision of a community transformed by art, the museum champions cultural equity, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for visitors of all backgrounds.
Dynamic Exhibitions and Programs
Since beginning its exhibitions and public programs in 1995, OMA has built a reputation for presenting fresh and thought-provoking contemporary art. The museum hosts more than 15 exhibitions annually, offering visitors a new and exciting experience with every visit.
In addition to exhibitions, OMA offers:
- Youth education programs and art classes
- Adult workshops and creative learning opportunities
- Concerts, films, and culinary events
- Community gatherings and cultural celebrations
These programs create an engaging space for art lovers, students, and curious visitors alike.
A Unique Architectural Experience
OMA is housed in two architecturally significant buildings that blend history and modern design. The original structure, designed by renowned modernist architect Irving Gill, is complemented by a contemporary expansion designed by Frederick Fisher. Together, these spaces create a seamless fusion of past and present.
A Rich History of Community Vision
Founded by a dedicated group of local citizens, OMA officially opened its doors in 1997 after years of planning and community support. With backing from the city and continued growth, the museum expanded in 2008 with a modern three-level addition, further enhancing its ability to serve the community.
Connecting Community Through Creativity
OMA continues to play an essential role in the cultural life of San Diego County and the broader Southern California region. Its diverse programming and inclusive approach ensure that visitors of all ages and backgrounds can experience the transformative power of art.
