For 33 years, Media Arts Center San Diego’s San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF) has championed Latino voices and storytelling, creating a space for narratives that reflect the richness and complexity of our communities. In a time when these stories are more important than ever, the festival continues to celebrate film as a powerful tool for connection, reflection, and imagination – rooted in community, love, and respect.
Returning for its 33rd edition from March 18–22, 2026, at AMC Mission Valley 20 and the Digital Gym CINEMA, SDLFF continues its tradition of bringing audiences together through cinema. This year’s festival, inspired by the winning poster design by Axel Arevalo, embodies the spirit of familia – representing more than three decades of audiences uniting to celebrate, share, and be inspired. Beyond screenings, the festival offers a platform for dialogue, understanding, and a renewed appreciation of Latino culture and heritage.
Among this year’s highlights is American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez, directed by David Alvarado. This documentary honors the legendary filmmaker and activist whose work opened doors for Chicano stories on the big screen, reminding us of the transformative power of storytelling and the enduring impact of art as a catalyst for change. Opening Night will feature Mistura, directed by Ricardo de Montreuil and starring Bárbara Mori. Described by de Montreuil as a love letter to Peru, the film follows a woman on a transformative journey, celebrating the country’s rich cultural identity while challenging societal norms. Additionally, Opening Night will also include a screening of 20 Pounds to Happiness, written by Josefina López (Real Women Have Curves) and directed by Yelyna De León.
In addition to these films, the Official Selection will include over 120 features and shorts, parties, Sonido Latino concerts, and Arte Latino showcases. Visit www.sdlatinofilm.com for more information!
