The Walk for Sobriety Step Up in Support of Recovery

Share

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, McAlister Institute invites you to step up and step forward in support of recovery at the 13th Annual Walk for Sobriety, held at beautiful NTC Park at Liberty Station. This 5K walk is more than a morning of movement – it is a powerful celebration of hope, healing, and second chances.

Check-in and day-of registration begin at 8:00 AM and are followed by a community walk through Liberty Station’s scenic waterfront paths. Whether you are walking in memory, in support, or in celebration, your steps help break the stigma of addiction and extend a hand of hope to those still struggling. The event also features a family-friendly fun zone with activities for children, a community resource fair, and a high-energy dance warm-up to kick off the day.

Proceeds from the Walk benefit McAlister Institute, one of San Diego County’s most trusted providers of services for individuals and families impacted by addiction. For 48 years, McAlister has delivered life-saving substance use treatment, including cooccurring mental health services, and vocational and housing support to more than 19,000 people annually, striving to turn no one away for lack of ability to pay. Funds raised by the Walk help support that goal.

Participants are encouraged to wear a bib showing the number of days they – or someone they love – have been clean and sober. These powerful numbers transform the Walk into a living mosaic of recovery, reminding us that healing is real, that every day matters, and that each step forward makes a difference.

This year’s Walk coincides with a milestone birthday for Jeanne McAlister, the agency’s beloved founder, who celebrates 93 years of life and 69 years of continuous sobriety this year. Her legacy is woven into every step taken that day.

Join us in honoring that legacy and in bringing help and hope to those still finding their way.
