At just 2 years old, Jacob rang the bell marking the end of his cancer treatment, a powerful moment made possible by the care of community and the compassion of generous partners like the Manchester Family Foundation. At the heart of that support was the Emilio Nares Foundation (ENF), which provides free, life-saving services to families with children battling cancer, including transportation, emergency support, and care coordination. ENF’s comprehensive Continuum of Care, backed by the longtime generosity of the Manchester Family Foundation, ensures that no family walks the cancer journey alone.
Surrounded by his mother, ENF team members, and the Manchester Family Foundation, Jacob marked the completion of treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer. The moment was filled with emotion, joy, and reflection on the extraordinary resilience of one young child and the network that stood beside him every step of the way.
Diagnosed at just 18 months old, Jacob endured months of chemotherapy, a grueling surgery, medical appointments, and hospital stays. His journey with the Emilio Nares Foundation began at the Family Resource Center, where his family received personalized guidance and support. From there, they were connected to ENF’s Ride With Emilio program, which ensured Jacob never missed a treatment by providing free, reliable transportation to and from his medical appointments. For families like Jacob’s, often facing financial hardship and logistical barriers, these services are a lifeline.
The Manchester Family Foundation has played a critical role in sustaining ENF’s Continuum of Care, which begins at the Family Resource Center and expands to include transportation, emergency assistance, language-accessible education, and emotional support.
