Building a Thriving Community Because ‘USD Begins With Us’

The University of San Diego recently launched a Year of Wellness initiative aimed at promoting holistic health and the wellness journeys of USD community members, in mind, in body and spirit.

The initiative began with the opening of the Palomar Health Student Wellness Center at USD, a transformative new facility that features areas for fitness, a teaching kitchen and juice bar, spaces for strength training, cardio and health classes. There are also spaces for study, sport, counseling services and care support.

“The Palomar Health Student Wellness Center has become a vibrant hub for connection, restoration, and holistic well-being on our campus,” Kimmel Yeager, executive director of the wellness center shared with GB Magazine San Diego. “Students, faculty, and staff have embraced the space with incredible enthusiasm. This center is more than just a building – it is a powerful reflection of our commitment to cultivating a campus culture where every member of our community can thrive, inside and out.”

USD’s Year of Wellness uplifts a key distinction of the university and the many people – faculty members, healthcare professionals, campus counselors, ministry leaders, wellness experts and support services teams – who help the campus community truly flourish.

It also celebrates the wellness programs that support the academic, spiritual, social and professional successes of its community members. As a contemporary Catholic university, USD remains committed to its promise to confront humanity’s challenges by fostering peace, working for justice and leading with love.

“Our students make me feel hopeful about the future,” says Charlotte Johnson, JD, USD’s vice president for student affairs. “I love students at USD. They are smart, they are dedicated, they work hard, and they care about each other. The culture of care we talk about at USD is real.”
