Who said it was supposed to be easy?
WILD COAST is an international team that conserves coastal and marine ecosystems and addresses climate change through natural solutions. For the past 25 years, WILDCOAST has embraced a “get-it-done” approach to conservation that has helped to conserve 38 million acres of some of the world’s most vital ocean habitat and coastlines. WILDCOAST is in the field actively implementing real and tangible conservation solutions alongside local communities, governments, and private sector partners. Serge Dedina Ph.D. is the Co-founder and Executive Director of WILDCOAST.

#1 Serge Dedina from Imperial Beach, California, but have also lived in El Salvador, Peru, Mexico, France, Spain, England, and Morocco. My immigrant parents, who experienced the pain of war in Europe, always supported me and pushed me to make a difference.
#2 Favorite Movie: I first watched Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night with my family in El Salvador as a child and have loved it ever since.
#3 Serge Dedina Hobbies: Surfing, swimming, paddling, skiing, and hiking.
#4 Bucket List: Hiking the Tour de Mont Blanc. I am afraid of heights, which can pose a challenge when skiing and hiking.
#5 With my wife Emily and sons Israel and Daniel, I love surfing and exploring the wild coastlines of Baja California, Oaxaca, Australia, Canada, southwestern France, and Cornwall, England

#6 I love petting the friendly whales of Laguna San Ignacio in Baja and surfing with bottlenose dolphins in San Diego. I cannot wait to surf the gorgeous waves of Queensland in Australia.
#7 Book Recommendation: The Invention of Nature: Alexander Von Humboldt’s New World by Andrea Wulf is a page-turner about one of history’s most inspiring ecologists and explorers who influenced Simón Bolívar and Charles Darwin, among others.
#8 Having an impact on our community is what drives me, motivates me, and gives me joy.
#9 Back in 2000, Wallace J. Nichols and I co-founded WILDCOAST due to our desire to protect wild ocean animals and their habitats along the Pacific. I have spent most of my life defending our coasts and oceans because they give us life.
#10 The funds raised from our “Baja Bash” support all of WILDCOAST’s crucial conservation programs including managing marine protected areas off the coast of California, stopping plastic ocean pollution at the US-Mexico border, restoring San Diego County’s wetlands, planting and restoring mangroves throughout Mexico, protecting sea turtle nesting beaches, and safeguarding coral reef ecosystems and gray whale breeding lagoons in Baja California.
