“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Mission Federal Credit Union (Mission Fed) is the largest member-owned, not-for-profit, full-service financial institution exclusively serving San Diego County. Mission Fed enhances the lives of its members through financial education and services to help San Diegans achieve financial wellness and success. #1 I love San Diego, but If I had to live anywhere else, I would love to live someplace with four distinct seasons… as long as I don’t have to shovel snow!

#2 As a kid, I loved to fix and build things. My dad drove me around town for parts so I could build a Star Trek Communicator from scratch. I never connected with the Enterprise, but it was a fun project.

#3 Ten years ago I began researching my family roots. I learned about my mom’s much younger half-sister whom she lost touch with nearly 60 years ago. I finally located her in Florida and a few months ago, she flew to San Diego with her daughter to surprise my mom for her 96th birthday.

#4 Staying up late to watch movies is my favorite thing to do on the weekends.

#5 I would like to master playing the guitar or piano. I started to learn years ago but haven’t picked it back up.

#6 I have been passionate about animals my entire life and almost become a veterinarian. There are always dogs in our household, many of which are rescues. My husband Michael and I have three dogs: Bailey, Buster and Carlee.

#7 At Mission Fed, supporting pets is in one of our key pillars from a Community Relations perspective. Pets are an important component of our community’s overall health and wellbeing.

#8 Many of us are in the credit union world because it is about people over profits, with a concentrated focus on giving back to our community.

#9 At Mission Fed, helping our San Diego community is not just what we do, it is who we ARE! Throughout the pandemic, our members and employees raised more than $680,000 for those most impacted.

#10 For 60 years, Mission Fed has served the financial needs of San Diegans and was recognized as a 2020 Top Workplace by The San Diego Union-Tribune and named a Top Workplaces USA winner in 2021.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
