Intro

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace in me has not been fruitless. (1 Cor. 15, 10)

Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego is a nonprofit, pediatric-care facility dedicated to excellence in care, research and teaching. Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego is the largest children’s hospital in California (based on admissions) and the provider of care to 91% of the region’s children. When Lisa Hamlin Vieira was 12 years old, she began volunteering at the old Children’s Hospital Fair. For 26 years, Lisa worked on Celebration of Champions with the La Playa Unit of Rady Children’s Auxiliary and in March, Lisa will Co-Chair the 113th Anniversary Charity Ball.

1

#1 I grew up in Point Loma. I love the quiet beauty of Point Loma and cannot imagine living anywhere else.

#2 My ancestor, Jose Francisco Ortega, came to San Diego with Father Junipero Serra.

#3 Although I do not stay up until the wee hours anymore, I am definitely more of a night owl.

#4 I would love to become fluent in Spanish. My golf game could use a lot of work, too.

#5 When I have a spare moment, I read a great book or knit something for one of my grandchildren.

#6 We lost our sweet Australian Shepherd, Lily, recently, but we have three beautiful cats, Molly, Freya, and Pepper and also a tank of goldfish.

#7 Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego is a major pediatric clinical research center, working in collaboration with world-renowned institutions, including UC San Diego and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

#8 Charity Ball has been supporting the health of San Diego’s kids since 1909 and Rady Children’s since 1954. This year, we are happy to highlight Reef, who successfully had a large brain aneurysm repaired the day he was born and Hilary, whose epilepsy has been very successfully treated through a ketogenic diet.

#9 Charity Ball has been able to support so many innovations in the medical care of our children, from heart transplants, to neurological conditions, to cancer, to mental health, and so much more. We are fortunate that we can provide an elegant evening that raises the funds that allow sick children to stay here in San Diego for their treatment.

#10 Proceeds from the 2022 Charity Ball will go to the new Neuroscience Institute at Rady Children’s Hospital and will also help unlock a generous matching gift from the Ernest and Evelyn Rady Reimagine Fund – a transformational investment to create a reimagined healing environment as part of a comprehensive master campus and system plan at Rady Children’s.
