“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” – Dr. Seuss

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD) has over 75 years of experience in successfully providing children with life-changing services that aid them in their overall development. BGCGSD believes that the way to build a better tomorrow is to invest in a child’s future today. Currently, 10 Clubs are open and operating under modified conditions including smaller groups, social distancing, use of personal protective equipment, and a variety of health and safety precautions. 75% of the youth served at these locations are children of essential workers. To accommodate virtual schooling, Clubs are now open over 10 hours a day instead of 4 hours. Board of Director, James Chang is chairing the Little Jumps Big Changes Campaign, to provide BGCGSD children with the tools they need to build healthier futures.

10 Things About James Chang & Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego

1

#1 I grew up in Burbank, California.

#2 If I could not live in San Diego, I would like to try Long Island because that is where my wife grew up and it would be great to experience all four seasons.

#3 When I have 30 minutes of free time, I hit the trails on my mountain bike.

#4 I am secretly obsessed with live edge furniture and enjoy making random tables/benches with different species of wood.

#5 A skill I would like to master is carpentry, so I can build a tree house or play place for my kids and Boys & Girls Club kids.

2

#6 I was forced to become a morning person through the military and my 3-year-old daughter…

#7 If we had to quickly evacuate our home, I would only get irreplaceable items and a few stuffed animals (Stuffo, Malibu, Maui, Dolphinie, and Rainbow) for the kids.

#8 If I could change anything in our Country, I would pay teachers a lot more as it is one of the most important professions and they truly shape our future.

#9 A grateful parent shared how much the Club being open at this time has meant. “My husband and I both work in hospitals. When the schools closed, we had to send our kids away to their grandparents in Northern California. When the Club reopened, it allowed us to be a family again. The kids came home and we knew they were safe and well-cared for while we were at work.”

#10 Proceeds from the Little Jumps Big Changes campaign support one of the three priority outcomes of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego: “Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices”. The Little Jumps Big Changes Campaign is designed to teach young people about the benefits of healthy habits such as eating smart and being physically active.
