A Legacy of Conservation Since 1984

Since its founding in 1984, R*I*T*Z San Diego Zoo has raised more than $20 million in support of the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. Each year, this celebrated fundraiser brings together community leaders, supporters, and wildlife advocates to advance conservation and inspire action for nature.

The funds raised through R*I*T*Z have benefitted countless habitats, including Africa Rocks, Elephant Odyssey, and Tiger Trail, while also fueling field conservation programs across the globe. From restoring ecosystems to protecting endangered species, the impact of RITZ continues to grow year after year.

Supporting Habitats and Global Wildlife Efforts

R*I*T*Z is more than a gala—it is a catalyst for conservation. By supporting the event, donors directly contribute to the health of wildlife at the Zoo and Safari Park, as well as efforts to safeguard species in their native habitats.

Past contributions have:

  • Restored critical habitats at the Zoo and Safari Park.
  • Advanced fieldwork for endangered species, including the California condor, rhinos, and elephants.
  • Supported cutting-edge research, education, and community-led initiatives.

Aligned with the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Mission

The success of R*I*T*Z San Diego Zoo reflects the larger mission of the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance: “A World Where All Life Thrives.” As a nonprofit international conservation organization, the Alliance integrates wildlife care, science, and education to create sustainable solutions for a healthier planet.

R*I*T*Z supports the Alliance’s global conservation hubs, spanning eight regions where teams focus on protecting species and ecosystems most in need. These hubs connect local communities, partners, and scientists to create lasting change for wildlife and people alike.
