Enriching, educating and inspiring visitors
Twenty-five years ago, four women came together with the goal of supporting the museums along The Prado in Balboa Park. Thanks to the efforts of Kathleen Buoymaster, Joyce Glazer, Barbara McColl and Gloria Wallace, Patrons of the Prado was born. Now one quarter of a century later, Patrons of the Prado has provided almost $5 million of unrestricted funding to its beneficiaries: Fleet Science Center, Mingei International Museum, Museum of Photographic Arts, Museum of Us, The Old Globe, San Diego History Center, San Diego Junior Theatre, San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Natural History Museum and Timken Museum of Art. In addition, thanks to Patrons’ innovative Bucks4Buses program, more than 200,000 San Diego students have experienced its beneficiaries’ educational programming, with 65% of those students coming from Title 1 schools. Patrons’ support was especially appreciated when the pandemic forced museums to pivot and offer online programming to share their exhibits and educational efforts with the community.
Patrons hopes this Silver Anniversary continues to inspire its sponsors and donors so that these critical arts and culture institutions continue to enrich, educate and inspire visitors for years to come. One way to support Patrons is through its signature annual fundraiser, Masterpiece, held at the historic Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Please save the date of July 9, 2022 for Masterpiece: “Under the Desert Sun,” a nod to the swanky nightlife of 1960s Palm Springs. This unforgettable event will feature live entertainment, gourmet dinner and drinks, live and silent auction and dancing under the stars in the most iconic venue in Balboa Park.

Hace veinticinco años, cuatro mujeres se unieron con el objetivo de ayudar a cumplir los objetivos que los museos de The Prado del Parque Balboa se habían impuesto.
