New Beginnings at Father Joe’s Villages
Father Joe’s Villages provides neighbors with the opportunity to reclaim their lives and start fresh. The comprehensive services and wrap-around programs prepare individuals experiencing homelessness to regain their self-sufficiency and live happier and healthier lives.
Amber is a mother and current resident at Father Joe’s Villages. As a child, both of her parents struggled with substance use. Unfortunately, Amber endured a similar struggle. While living on the streets with her family two years ago, Amber overdosed on fentanyl but was revived. Subsequently, her two beautiful daughters, Aaliyah and Liberty, were taken away by Child Protective Services. In September of 2021, Amber’s husband passed away after suffering from his eighth stroke. On his deathbed, she made him a promise that she would stay sober and create a better life for their girls.
Fast forward to today, and Amber has been sober for one year and ten months. “The staff at Father Joe’s Villages are family to us. I got my prenatal care there, they helped me on my recovery journey, and my husband would not have lived as long as he did without the care provided by Father Joe’s Villages. I am really grateful,” Amber shared.
Today, Amber’s family is reunited and thriving. Aaliyah is four years old and heading into kindergarten, and Liberty is three years old. “I am most proud of my daughters and the caring and manners they show every day,” Amber said.
Amber has also utilized the onsite childcare at Therapeutic Childcare and the resources through the Employment and Education Services program. She now has a job and hopes to someday become a Peer Support Specialist so she can help others on their journey to recovery and a better life. “I just realized I didn’t want to die, and I am proud to say that I have kept my promises,” said Amber.
Amber and her family are currently flourishing and more motivated than ever to continue building a brighter future.

Father Joe ‘s Villages brinda a los vecinos la oportunidad de recuperar sus vidas y comenzar de nuevo. Los servicios integrales y programas de contención preparan a los individuos que padecen la situación de calle a recuperar la independencia y lograr vidas más felices y sanas.
Amber es madre y actualmente reside en Father Joe ‘s Villages. De niña, sus padres fueron víctimas del flagelo de la droga y lamentablemente Amber pasó por algo similar. Hace dos años, mientras vivía en las calles con su familia tuvo una sobredosis con fentanilo que casi le cuesta la vida, por lo que sus dos hijas, Aaliyah y Liberty quedaron a cargo de Protección de menores. En septiembre del 2021 falleció el marido de Amber debido a su octavo infarto, pero antes de morir, Amber le prometió que se recuperaría de su adicción y les daría una mejor vida a sus hijas.
Hoy en día Amber lleva un año y diez meses sin consumir. “El equipo de Father Joe ‘s Villages es una familia para mí. Ellos me brindaron atención durante el embarazo, me ayudaron en mi viaje de recuperación y mi marido no hubiese vivido tanto sin el cuidado que ellos le brindaron, estoy realmente agradecida a ellos”.
Hoy en día Amber logró reunir a su familia y están transitando la buena senda. Aaliyah tiene cuatro años y está por comenzar el jardín de infantes, Liberty tiene tres años. “Estoy muy orgullosa de mis hijas y de lo cariñosas y educadas que son” comenta Amber.
Amber ha utilizado la guardería del Therapeutic Childcare y los recursos que ofrecen los programas del Servicio de Empleo y Educación, tiene un trabajo y espera algún día convertirse en Especialista de Apoyo de Pares para poder ayudar a otros en su camino de recuperación y a tener una mejor vida. “Me di cuenta de que no quería morir y con orgullo puedo decir que cumplí mis promesas”.
Amber y su familia están construyendo una vida más sana, motivados por la esperanza de un mejor futuro.
