Teeing off for student and teacher success

The Cal Coast Cares Foundation, established by California Coast Credit Union as a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2015, provides grants for teachers and scholarships for college-bound high school seniors, including a special program for current or former foster youth, in San Diego and Riverside Counties.

To support this important mission, the Foundation will host the 5th Annual Cal Coast Cares Foundation Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, August 15, 2022, at the beautiful Fairbanks Ranch Country Club located in Rancho Santa Fe. This is an opportunity for the public to play on a private golf course – that they may not otherwise have a chance to experience. Participants will enjoy terrific views and challenging play for golfers at every skill level. This will truly be a special event!

The tournament will feature twosome and foursome options as well as a variety of sponsorship opportunities. Golfers will enjoy breakfast and lunch, fun on-course contests, an opportunity to bid on silent auction items, and a post-event banquet. To further their reach, the silent auction will be available online for those who may not be a golfer but would like to support the cause.

“We know this year’s charity golf tournament will be a terrific experience for a meaningful cause. Now more than ever with rising costs of transportation, supplies, and tuition – the Foundation’s work is much needed. Proceeds from this event and the silent auction will benefit local students and teachers through the Cal Coast Cares Foundation. We want to do our part to positively impact the lives of students and teachers across the region,” Todd Lane, President and CEO of Cal Coast Credit Union shared with GB Magazine.

Sade Burrell, a doctoral student at UCSD who received a student scholarship from the Cal Coast Cares Foundation shared of its impact on her academic endeavors; “As a person who experienced foster care and a professional who wants to better support foster youth, I decided to further pursue my education. With less than 1% of foster youth finishing school with a graduate degree, I am honored to have been chosen as a recipient of the Cal Coast Scholarship.”

The Foundation has also directly impacted countless classrooms through educator grants geared towards projects in STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Arts and Math). Topics have included hydroponic greenhouse projects to robotics, chemistry kits and much more.

Brittany Perro, a middle school teacher from High Tech Middle North County received an educator grant and expressed her appreciation, “I am absolutely honored and grateful to receive an Educator’s Grant from Cal Coast Cares Foundation! My students and I will now be able to engage in incredibly meaningful projects that we otherwise would not be able to afford materials and books for. Thanks to the generosity and support of this grant, my 8th graders will have the opportunity to create products that will not only inspire deeper learning but will make a difference at our school and in our community for years to come!”
