“Don’t tell me the sky is the limit, when there are footprints on the moon”
–Paul Brandt

Home of Guiding Hands has been providing services for over 55 years to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Home of Guiding Hands truly goes above and beyond for their clients, whom they consider family. Whether it is planning an event at their offices, going to a theme park, or enjoying dinner out, Home of Guiding Hands makes sure their clients are active in the community and thriving in their lives. Dave Walker is an active volunteer and contributor to Home of Guiding Hands as well as a member of the Board of Governors.

1

#1 I was born and raised in San Diego, went to Patrick Henry High School and later went to college at Cal. State Chico.

#2 I have traveled to many places around the world, but my favorite destination is working on my son’s farm, TJ Farms, in Chico, California.

#3 I would like to travel to all the major league baseball stadiums during one season and watch a game at each. I am most looking forward to going to the historic Wrigley Field in Chicago.

#4 My favorite way to decompress is to go on a hike and get lost in nature.

#5 “Rocky” is one of my favorite movies. I have a vivid memory of watching it in theaters with my brother as the whole theatre was jumping up and cheering Rocky on during the movie.

#6 We have an Australian Shepard named Skye.

#7 By giving back and helping strengthen members of our community, those individuals become stronger and are able to care for themselves and others, which is what makes the world a better place. What we give compares so little to what we get in return.

#8 I have coached a baseball team that has been undefeated for over 15 years (because every game ends in a tie). The sponsor name on the back of the jersey is “Undefeated” not only to celebrate the dynamic of the league but to also honor the players, caregivers and family members who are not defeated by the challenges they face each day.

#9 Parker, who was born with an intellectual and developmental disability, has had an immensely positive impact on my life. Understanding his life has put into perspective the sacrifices, focus and acceptance his family members have experienced. I admire that Parker’s family, as well as others, will do anything to help their child reach their fullest potential.

#10 The money raised from our Gala goes to support a variety of initiatives, such as our Client Social Club, accessible home improvements, client outings, as well as supporting over 10 community programs within the organization.
