The Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP), the oldest high school in San Diego and the only all girls’ school in the county, recently launched zSpace virtual reality (VR) technology on campus. The school is the first all girls’ school in Southern California and the first school in San Diego County to embrace this new technology.
This state-of-the-art VR technology has limitless applications in the classroom, allowing students to learn visually and interact with a vast catalog of course material ranging from anatomy, botany, ecosystems, physics, earth science and biochemistry to geography and history modules.
“Today, students are challenged to compete on a global scale and be adept at leveraging rapidly changing technologies. At OLP, we are thrilled to place these new tools in the hands of our remarkable students,” Dr. Lek, OLP Head of School, tells Giving Back Magazine. “Being one of the first all girls’ schools to bring this technology speaks to our trailblazing history of educating the next generation of women leaders and innovators.”
As a college preparatory school, OLP looks to institutions like UCSD and Stanford and the tools they are leveraging for student learning to ensure their students are exposed to the same tools they will see at the university level.
While zSpace VR is geared toward transforming and enhancing STEM learning, its applications do not stop there. With modules pertaining to the arts including sculpting, music ensemble, storytelling, theatres through the ages and more, zSpace allows OLP to remain committed to joining STEM subjects with the Arts to provide a holistic curriculum across all disciplines.
