I Learn From Life Every Day…
At age 5, Joseph entered foster care and would patiently wait for his mother to visit until one day, Joseph learned that his mom would not be visiting anymore because she was in jail. Before coming to Walden Family Services, Joseph lived in six different group homes. Walden helped Joseph find his forever home and take charge of his life. Joseph completed 3 associate degrees and is now at a four-year college where he is determined to graduate and not follow in his mother’s footsteps. Vicki Eddy is co-chairing Wine D’Vine, Walden’s signature fundraiser that helps fill the financial gap between State funding and actual program costs of care.
10 Things About Vicki Eddy & Walden Family Services
#1 I grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, full of Southern charm and family friends that went back for generations. Everybody cooked like a Chef (especially my Dad). I was surrounded by huge hearts, loud laughter, backyard parties and summers on the lake. My high school mascot was “Al E. Gator” and yes, it was next to a bayou! Hi y’all!
#2 As a teen, I worked summers at my Dad’s office as a Girl Friday. Daddy and I had lunches together that I cherish to this day.
#3 We are dog people and animal crazy! Max, our beloved German Shorthair Pointer was a celebrity winning “Best of Breed” at the Beverly Hills Dog Show.
#4 My fifth Great-Grandfather was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and I was born on the 4th of July!
#5 My mother, Dixey, was legendary. She was so fun and all my friends went to her for advice. She managed a couture bridal shop and dressed every bride in town for over 30 years. I was 33 when she left us, but she gave me a lifetime supply of love and purpose.
#6 My brother was born with congenital glaucoma and lost his sight as a young child. Growing up, I witnessed my brother’s courage and grace with blindness.
#7 At Walden Family Services, we help children who are labeled “hard to place,” we work earnestly to find loving foster families who are equipped to help them heal from past abuse and successfully transition from foster care into family life, college and career goals.
#8 The more my husband, Chris and I learn about Walden, the more inspired we are.
#9 Chris and I are chairing Wine D’Vine with our dear friends, Micki Olin and Reid Abrams.
#10 Wine D’Vine’s headliners rock – John Fogerty, Peter Frampton and this year – the legendary Moody Blues! High fives to our entertainment benefactors Harley and Maryann Sefton… they rock too! The teen-age me would have never believed this!
