Friends and Alumni Gathered in Spain to Celebrate the European Reunion’s 25th Anniversary

The University of San Diego’s European Alumni Chapter was established in 1994 by a small group of School of Business alumni living in Europe and this year was proud to hold its 25th anniversary reunion weekend in Spain. The first meeting was held in Ardennes, Belgium. Each year since, the reunion moves to a different major European city, including places such as Zurich, Switzerland, Cannes, France, London, England, Paris, France, Munich, Germany, Milan, Italy, and Stockholm, Sweden, just to name a few.

This year, more than 40 members of the USD community gathered for the extraordinary trip. The unforgettable trip began in Valencia, where alumni and friends enjoyed artistic influences and beautiful sights – from Moorish rule and Gothic civil architecture, to the futuristic and emblematic City of Arts and Sciences. Festivities included a visit to Europe’s largest aquarium, a Paella on the Beach event, a Cañas and Tapas Crawl, Sunday Mass at San Nicolás de Bari and San Pedro Mártir, which included a special blessing for USD attendees. The Mass was followed by a walking tour in the city’s historic center.

The trip continued in Madrid and a stop at the university’s Madrid Center, USD’s first, permanent international location, located in the heart of Madrid, just steps from Retiro Park and the world-famous Prado Museum. USD Madrid Center expands USD’s Global Footprint in accordance with USD’s strategic plan. It supports a semester abroad program, which offers similar undergraduate courses as those offered on the San Diego campus and provides students with on-site support from USD faculty and staff who work in the Madrid Center.

During the reunion weekend, guests also traveled to Alcalá de Henares to discover USD’s architectural roots through a private walking tour of the more than 700-year-old Universidad de Alcalá.

The European Alumni Chapter is proud to announce that the 2020 reunion will take place in Norway and the 2021 reunion will be hosted in Croatia.
