Cheers To 40 Years – A Ruby Celebration.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank will celebrate its 40th anniversary at its 2017 annual gala, Cheers To 40 Years – A Ruby Celebration, which will be held at the nonprofit’s 90,000 square foot warehouse facility in Miramar on Saturday, April 29.

Twenty-five celebrated local chefs, representing restaurants from across the county, will donate their time and culinary talent for the event. The gala’s chef committee co-chairs, Chef Sara Polczynski of Seasoned Plates and Chef Jonathan Hale of The Prado at Balboa Park, are leading the team of chefs to help raise vital funds for the Food Bank’s hunger-relief programs, including the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program which provides weekend backpacks filled with food to elementary school children living in poverty.

“We are thrilled to have the participation of our community’s best chefs. We will have fifty tables, and each chef will host two tables that evening serving as a personal chef, preparing a multi-course meal with drink parings,” said Chef Sara Polczynski of Seasoned Plates.

“Guests will find out who their chef is the night of the event. The guests loved the surprise! I heard so many guests ask each other, ‘Who was your chef?’ ‘What did you eat?’” explains Polczynski.

This year’s gala co-chairs, Jeannie Johnson Bolinger and Cheryl Floros, are excited about their plans for the event and its special significance celebrating the Food Bank’s 40th anniversary.

“Our theme this year is ruby because it is the gemstone for a 40th anniversary. The décor will reflect this theme throughout creating a very welcoming and rustic chic ambience,” gala co-chair Cheryl Floros tells Giving Back Magazine.

“It is an honor to serve as gala co-chair because we will be recognizing the vital role the Food Bank plays throughout San Diego County providing food to more than 370,000 people every month through 400 local nonprofit agencies,” said Bolinger.
