A Foundation for your passion
From the Mayor to the Police Chief to a Sharp Chula Vista hospital board member, Chula Vista residents and businesses have come together to form The Chula Vista Charitable Foundation. A proud affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, the Chula Vista Charitable Foundation provides grants to nonprofit programs in Chula Vista. Last year, more than $22,000 was granted to fund health and fitness programs for children enrolled in South Bay YMCA after-school programs and for clients at the Starlight Center, a care center for adults with disabilities. This year the foundation is poised to grant out $27,000 to nonprofit programs that are helping residents who are in need of social services in Chula Vista.
The Chula Vista Charitable Foundation is one of eight community foundations in the county supported by The San Diego Foundation. Each community foundation is comprised of individuals and businesses that know the community best and are dedicated to improving the quality of life. In each foundation member pays annual membership dues, of which half is distributed through grants and the remaining half deposited into an endowment fund that will provide benefit in perpetuity. Foundation member Debbie Discar Espe comments to Giving Back Magazine, “I have received many benefits from the community of Chula Vista, and I joined so that my giving would then benefit the community.”
