Mixing business and philanthropy.
Sycuan Casino is consistently all-in when it comes to its loyal patrons’ satisfaction and their endless passion for helping non-profit organizations in the region. Keeping the edge on fresh, fun and entertaining, whether on its grounds or volunteering, Sycuan is persistent in their eagerness to provide top-notch service to visitors and those being served through their civic engagements, and this summer season will be no exception!
Firing up the first Summer of Sycuan concert series at their smoke-free, 450-seat Live & Up Close theatre will be none other than iconic R&B superstar Smokey Robinson performing three consecutive nights in July. Moving from love to laughter, Latin Kings of Comedy George Lopez will keep the good times cruising with his humor hitting fans with four shows. Keeping the ‘fun’ in funk, disco gods, KC & the Sunshine Band bump their grooves to kick off August.
In between these headliners, Sycuan Casino never ceases to intertwine itself with giving back to the community and on August 6th Operation Bigs is about to go huge. Piano-based rocker Five for Fighting’s John Ondrasik will take to the stage with his hits like ‘Superman’, ‘100 Years’ and others to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego’s first of its kind program in the country.
Operation Bigs pairs children and youth of armed services parents with a mentor, some active duty, veteran or civilian, and aids in creating common ground with those mentored to help them best succeed and thrive in life. Being that San Diego is a military town, it was a natural fit for Sycuan to organize a fundraising concert and to inspire others to become Bigs to Littles, volunteers to children, respectively.
Mixing business and philanthropy is a labor of love for Sycuan Casino and it knows how to get meet and exceed these expectations. From the dealers to General Manager John Dinius, there is no employee who is not giving their all to visitors or when giving back to the community. So, when BBBS recently called Dinius asking if he would be interested in being on their board, he could not believe it.
Being a Little himself as a child, Dinius benefitted enormously from having a Big in his life. Now as an adult, he is able to contribute to an organization that is dear to him. He shares with Giving Back Magazine, “I have seen first-hand how important their mission is. It is great working for an organization like Sycuan who is so willing to provide to a great cause in a big way. We look forward to welcoming Mr. Ondrasik to our venue for an evening of music and giving back.”
“We are so grateful for the generous support from our friends at Sycuan Casino. This benefit concert will allow Big Brothers Big Sisters to reach more children of military families where a one-to-one mentoring relationship will have a profound, positive impact on their lives and our entire community,” said S. Wayne Kay, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County.
Sycuan Casino’s staff and tribal council members know the importance of placing patrons and their community engagement at the helm of their daily activities. Whether it is superb service to guests, live shows in their Live & Up Close venue, the excitement of the gaming floor, to their personal care for the community, Sycuan Casino is committed to making San Diego a better place for all, Together.
