Most of us love the summer. Having tan skin and a beautiful glow is a great feeling, but my summer essentials will also help you stay healthy so you can look and feel your best!

1. Always Apply Sunblock
Even on cloudy days, make sure you put enough sunblock on and reapply every 30 minutes. This is especially important if you are sweating or are participating in aquatic activities. Even though the sun gives us a healthy dose of Vitamin D that protects us from many diseases, helps our immune system, and promotes teeth and bone health, make sure you are still using sunblock. It can help you avoid sunburn that can seriously age your skin and helps prevent skin cancer.

2. Hydrate
How many glasses of water are you drinking a day? I know it is tough to drink enough water but try to get used to drinking one full glass in the morning. That way you set the tone for the rest of the day to keep drinking fluids. Drinking enough water will prevent you from dehydration and helps your skin glow.

3. Change Up Your Exercise Routine
This is a great time to take advantage of the beautiful weather and go for a beach run or walk. The sun gives you energy, so try and get out and move. The sun rises earlier during summer, so it makes it easier to wake up. Try to workout early to maintain your energy levels throughout the rest of the day.

4. Moisturize Your Skin
Make sure you are hydrating your skin. We tend to sweat more and lose more water so it’s important to use moisturizer morning and night. Nobody likes crocodile skin.

5. Eat Fruits and Veggies
If you are like me when the hot weather hits, my cravings shift to healthier, fresh food. Try new recipes with colorful fruits and vegetables. If you had been putting off better eating habits, summer is a great time to start. Fruit is sweeter, vegetables are crispier. Nothing compares fresh healthy food when trying to keep cool!
This delicious ceviche recipe is a great healthy snack alternative that will be a refreshing treat for you and whoever you decide to share with!

Ingredients:
• White Fish (Tilapia, 2 pounds)
• 1 cup of chopped onion
• 2 cups of chopped Roma tomatoes
• 2 cups of cilantro (use only the leaf and discard the stem)
• 2 avocados (sliced)
• 8 to 10 lemons (juice)
• Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:
In a glass container, put the fish cut nicely into cubes. Add salt and pepper and cover with lemon juice, put it in the fridge until the fish gets tanned. You will notice the change of color, from clear to firm white. Now it’s ready to add the tomato, onion, and cilantro. Serve it cold with the avocado slices. It is optional to add hot sauce or ketchup. Enjoy it with some chips or tostadas!
