Voices for Children.
Voices for Children transforms the lives of foster children in San Diego County by providing them with volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). Voices for Children believes that every child deserves a safe and permanent home and, to that end, provides CASA volunteers to over 3,000 local foster children and monitors the file of each and every of the 5,000+ children in foster care in San Diego County each year.
However, there are hundreds of children in need of the caring advocacy of a CASA volunteer. For children in foster care, life can be very hard. Fortunately, CASAs step in as “officers of the court”, to clear a path out of the complex bureaucracy and into safe, permanent homes.
Founded in 1980, VFC is one of the oldest and largest CASA programs in the United States. This year, with a budget of $5.5 million, VFC provides a lifeline to San Diego’s foster children with a budget that is 95% privately funded. To help meet children’s needs, VFC’s signature annual event is Starry Starry Night, which will be held September 24, 2016, at the San Diego Polo Club.
Nancy and David Doyle will serve as the event’s chairs and the goal is to raise $1.3 million, making this one of the largest gala events in the region. Starry Starry Night always sells out, so early reservations are advised.
With just 10-15 hours a month, you can change the life of a foster child by becoming a CASA volunteer! Currently there is an urgent need for bilingual CASAs to help with Spanish-speaking children.
