Making a difference
SK Sanctuary, the award winning medical spa in La Jolla, has been hosting breast cancer nights almost every month since 2001 welcoming over 3,500 in that time. Now on the last Tuesday of every other month, SK Sanctuary offers complimentary spa services to 35- 40 breast cancer patients and survivors. They come to experience free spa services and are comforted by the therapists, aestheticians and staff.
The event includes guest speakers from the community and beyond. They range from TV personalities, authors, movement specialists, physicians, scientists and more. In the past, Katie Harmon, Ms. America 2002, spoke to the group about breast cancer awareness and early detection.
The goal for the evening is to provide comfort in the way of spa treatments. The wigs come off and the survivors tell their stories. They leave feeling pampered and rejuvenated with new friends. The emotional support that they receive from each other is more than anything SK Sanctuary could provide or have hoped for.
The evenings are sponsored by SK Institute which was founded in May 2001 as a non-profit public benefit corporation dedicated to funding organizations that offer services for people living with disease, providing education and seminars to promote early detection and supporting organizations that are working toward the cure and prevention of breast cancer.
