In March 2018, Stones Casino Group (SCG) hosted the inaugural “Big 24 Hour Giveback” event, a 24-hour event to raise critically-needed funds for Chula Vista-based South Bay Community Services (SBCS). For over 40 years, SBCS has supported families and children facing domestic violence and abuse, providing solutions that help end the cycle of abuse.

Over the course of the 24-hour event, SCG pledged a $100 donation for each guest that walked through the door, up to $75,000. At the close of the event, SBCS received a $75,000 check from SCG to fund vital community services.

“We are proud to have partnered with South Bay Community Services on this exciting inaugural event,” Stones Casino Group Owner Ryan Stone shared with Giving Back Magazine. “It is our honor to stand alongside the Chula Vista community in giving back to an organization that works tirelessly to transform lives across San Diego.”

In the months since the event, SBCS has been hard at work putting this significant donation to good use. Programs receiving funding include Mi Escuelita, a one-of-a-kind therapeutic preschool designed to meet the needs of children affected by domestic violence, encourage healing and set them up for a lifetime of academic success. With nearly half of students in foster care, the holistic Mi Escuelita program incorporates families as well, supporting both the child and caregivers to help with behavior challenges and learning opportunities in and away from the classroom.

“Our community partnerships are crucial to help us continue to provide services our children need to grow, learn and prosper,” SBCS CEO Kathryn Lembo said. “Together, we are giving our young people the support, tools and guidance they need to build stronger healthier futures.”

Other programs supported by the Big 24-Hour Giveback include Trolley Trestle foster youth transitional housing, emergency shelter options and domestic violence counseling. SCG is proud to partner with and support the vital services SBCS provides to the community.
