Fifteen years ago, San Ysidro Health Center rented space in one of Jim Pieri’s buildings in Chula Vista. That is when he first got to know the organization and, over time, grew increasingly impressed with their model of patient-centered health care.
Now, a decade and a half later, Pieri and his way Faye are chairing the organization’s annual gala because they have become ardent champions of the Center.
“The service they provide is amazing,” Jim tells Giving Back Magazine. “It fills a big need.”
The “big need” is for comprehensive health care for the underserved. San Ysidro Health Center operates 11 community-based health centers throughout the County and serves 80,000 patients, most of whom live at or below the Federal Poverty Level. Almost half of those patients are children.
“I’m of the mind that if you see an organization that provides a major service for the community, you need to jump in and help them,” Pieri says.
Jim and Faye Pieri know major community service when they see it. Jim is President and CEO of MountainWest Real Estate, headquartered in Chula Vista. For years, he has been volunteering for important causes, including continuing service on the Board of Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista. Faye, also a real estate professional, has been committed to child health services in Southern California. Together, the Pieri’s are themselves remarkable advocates for the work of San Ysidro Health Center.
“I love the Center’s approach to health care. Nothing seems overwhelming to them. They have unselfish dedication and diligence. It’s awe-inspiring what they do, how much they respect the patients they treat.”
San Ysidro Health Center’s annual gala takes place on Saturday, June 15th, 2013, at the Hotel Del Coronado. Because the event is chaired by Jim and Faye Pieri, it is reasonable to expect that the normally fabulous event will become even more spectacular – and still serve an essential community need.
