For families with a child in a hospital, nothing matters more than being together and helping their child heal. Childhood health emergencies have not gone away during COVID-19, and San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House continues to keep families close by providing lodging, meals and more just steps from their child’s hospital bedside.
Without San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House, a family of four would spend at least $2,500 on hotel rooms and meals for an average 10-night stay near the hospital. In some cases, family stays can extend up to several months at a time.

Close When it Counts
This year, the House will look to the San Diego community once again, for vital support to help these families stay together during the continuing challenges of COVID-19. Community support to keep families Close when it Counts will ensure life’s necessities are available free of charge to families in need.
Parents have little energy to care for themselves when giving their all to their child at the hospital. Charitable contributions as well as donations of time and tangible items will be crucial in helping these overwhelmed families experience the peace of mind that comes from being able to get to their child at a moment’s notice. These families will find a tumultuous time easier to bear with rest, nourishment and the support of others who understand what they are going through.
Though so many are still distant from each other and far from the “normal” life we remember, we know that we can still come together to make life better for those in crisis. The urgent needs of critically ill children and their families have not gone away, and San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House continues its work to ensure that families with hospitalized children stay close when it counts.

“Every child deserves to have a hand to hold and family nearby when facing life-threatening illness or injury.”
