Three communities in San Diego have long been among the nation’s most prestigious; and there is more interest than ever in moving there. These are the draws of living within the coveted zip-codes of La Jolla, Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe:
This internationally known, sophisticated beach community abounds with restaurants and shops that draw visitors not only from other parts of San Diego, but also from around the world. Known as “The Jewel”, La Jolla is also known for its theaters, art galleries, college, hospitals, the Salk Institute and many biotechnology companies. Multiple beaches and coastal walking add to the healthy living style offered by La Jolla.
Del Mar is a quiet, beautiful beach community with charming restaurants and shops, on a much smaller scale than La Jolla. Del Mar’s population is about one tenth that of La Jolla and offers a more casual personality.
There is nothing more beautiful or fun than to be at Seagrove Park, a grassy area just above the beach in Del Mar, listening to a concert as the sun goes down enjoying your favorite wine and cheese.
Rancho Santa Fe
Rancho Santa Fe is a community of large properties and estates; a place for horses or fruit orchards. Founded in the early 1920s by the Santa Fe Railroad which planted thousands of eucalyptus trees it intended to use for railroad ties. When that particular wood was not strong enough for their purposes, they started a community instead. Rancho Santa Fe has many top golf courses, horse stables, excellent elementary schools (public and private) and one of the County’s top restaurants, Mille Fleur.
How does a buyer make the decision between these excellent choices?
1. Consider desired proximity to work, schools, airport, train, Orange County or LA.
2. Consider desired proximity to sports activities, theatre and arts, shopping/restaurants, also, friends or family.
3. Determine budget to purchase and maintain – remember, solar panels, and drought tolerant landscaping and drip systems have moderated the financial impact, especially for larger estates.
Prioritize all of the above and ask an “experienced, active and ethical” agent to show you homes in all three areas. Just know and be confident in this: you can’t go wrong in La Jolla, Del Mar or Rancho Santa Fe!
