gtk-sandersNew CEO of San Diego Chamber of Commerce

At the beginning of April, former Mayor Jerry Sanders officially started his new role as the president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Sanders began his lifelong career in public service when he joined the San Diego Police Department at the age of 22. He ascended the police department ranks, ultimately becoming one of the youngest police chiefs in the city’s history.

Sanders then went on to become the CEO of the United Way of San Diego and Board Chairman of the local chapter of the American Red Cross, before running for Mayor in 2005.

Diving into his new role as CEO of the Chamber, Sanders recently participated in the Chamber’s eighth annual trip to Mexico City with San Diego Mayor Filner and Tijuana Mayor Bustamante. This year nearly 60 business executives and elected officials participated in the trip, the Chamber’s largest bi-national delegation ever.

The annual trip provides an opportunity to advocate for issues that affect the San Diego and Tijuana region, such as border infrastructure and improving cross border commerce.

Today, the Chamber is the largest nonprofit advocate for the San Diego regional business community. With nearly 3,000 members representing 400,000 employees, the Chamber is actively involved in local government, regional economic development and providing valuable resources to its members.
