Dr. Robert Singer is a worldwide leader in the plastic surgery community, with his offices here in La Jolla, the most internationally renowned and acclaimed in the San Diego area. Dr. Singer is well-recognized in his field for his role in the establishment of safety practices, training, artistry and advancement of the latest techniques and technology in both surgical and non-surgical procedures. Above all else, Dr. Singer is passionate about providing a personal individualized level of care to each and every patient and helping them make the best decision for their needs. In addition to being a world-class medical professional, Dr. Singer is making a difference as a long-standing philanthropist in our community and beyond. As Dr. Singer says, “Giving back makes the community better, it makes your life better, and it is the right thing to do.” And these are not just words, he, his wife Judith Harris and daughter Blair Harris are equally devoted to their charitable work; they are dedicated to leading by example, especially when it comes to advocating for animals, literacy and supporting the arts.

As someone who has pursued extensive training and frequently teaches others, Dr. Singer stresses the value of education, which is why he is involved in the San Diego Council on Literacy and San Diego Central Library. The San Diego Council on Literacy is devoted to strengthening the community through literacy. The organization succeeds at its mission to “inspire lifelong-learning”, something that Dr. Singer can relate to. “What every parent wants for their children is an education and the ability to read and write. Without that, there is very little chance for them to succeed,” Singer shared with GB Magazine. Dr. Singer also advocates for music education by supporting the San Diego Symphony and their diverse outreach efforts to every segment of the community.

His family’s compassion also extends to wildlife animal conservation and welfare as they are involved in the San Diego Zoo Global Wildlife Conservancy, San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research which leads efforts to restore the population of endangered species through research on the DNA in its “frozen zoo” and the San Diego Humane Society. On a global scale, the family also supports the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund® International and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust: Haven for Elephants and Rhinos. One of the programs Dr. Singer is most proud of is their involvement is San Diego Zoo Kids TV, a commercial-free television channel in over 300 children’s hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses in the United States and nine countries. It provides free of charge programming on all Zoo creatures for children during their hospitals stays and their medical procedures.

While Dr. Singer’s career keeps him incredibly busy, he never loses sight of the importance of being a loving father and husband and always remains committed to his philanthropic endeavors. He is a good reminder to us all that there is always time to give back, and the importance to do so.
