Join us! On September 21st, Immunotherapy Foundation (IF) will host its third annual Rock & Roll Avalanchefundraising gala, a one-of-a kind concert experience infused with its founders’ love of rock music and featuring the one and only, Billy Idol.

San Diego-based Immunotherapy Foundation (IF), founded in 2015 by Ralph and Fernanda Whitworth, is a non-profit organization with a mission to eradicate HPV cancers. To achieve this, the organization strategically funds the most promising cancer immunotherapy research, focused on HPV-driven cancers, and advances HPV cancer prevention through education and awareness programming supporting HPV vaccine uptake.

After Ralph’s passing in 2016, IF’s work has continued through Fernanda’s passionate leadership, inspiring her local community and an event committee of 14 leaders in San Diego philanthropy to join forces with her in the fight against cancer.

2019 Rock & Roll Avalanche

This year’s concert gala takes place on September 21 at The Music Box in San Diego – featuring legendary rocker, Billy Idol.  The event committee, led by co-chairs Laura Kreiss and IF’s founder and president, Fernanda Whitworth, are leading the charge to rock out for cancer research and prevention.

“I am so proud to co-chair this event alongside my friend, Fernanda,” said Laura. “Like too many, Fernanda and I have lost loved ones to cancer.  It is a devastating disease and knowing my support of IF can make a difference means the world to me. Please join us on September 21 to raise funds in support of cancer research and prevention. Billy Idol is going to be great!”

“Over 33,000 HPV-related cancers are diagnosed in the US every year,” IF Founder and CEO, Fernanda Whitworth shared with GB Magazine. “We have partnered with the best scientific minds to develop and advance precision cell-based cancer immunotherapy. IF has been able, through research and testing, to create individual therapies for patients. Our successes in HPV-related cancers have the potential to benefit all cancer types.”

IF works directly with world-class researchers to accelerate the discovery and development of new and improved immunotherapies for patients, and has translated multiple research projects into the clinical setting, creating a robust portfolio of preclinical immunotherapies and award-winning research at the University of California – San Diego (UCSD) and the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI), as recognized by the Cancer Research Institute. IF also advances educational programming around HPV vaccination, with a focus on the link to cancer. The organization seeks partnerships and alliances to help amplify existing education and advocacy initiatives, and build out regional, national and international efforts to reduce incidence of HPV and thus HPV-related cancers.

Over the last 4 years, IF and its partners have co-fundraised $4.7 Million, helping its research partners procure an additional $20 Million in grants. “We have an incredible opportunity to eradicate HPV-related cancers by accelerating research to make better therapies for patients currently facing these cancers, and by providing vaccinations for our children,” said Fernanda. “If we support both, we can make a world free from HPV cancers.”
