Meet 14-year-old Jade!

Jade knows the challenges of foster care too well. Jade’s parents were addicted to drugs. They frequentlyhad random guests in their home, which would cause Jade to barricade herself and heryounger siblings in a room to protect them from strangers. One evening, a loud argument over drugs led to Jade’s parentsbeing killed. It was then all three childrenentered foster care, living separately in different homes. They lost all contact, but this quickly changed oncethey began attending Promises’ Camp Connect.

Because of the trauma that Jade experienced, she had always been quiet and timid. She had a difficult timetrusting people. Suddenly, the moreevents she attended, the more things changed forthe better. The consistency of seeing familiar facesmade her feel safe, happy and more open than shehad been in the past. She began to trust again.

Through Camp Connect, Jade and her brothers nowsee each other every month. They laugh often and experience new things together. They have learnedabout healthy relationships; their bond is strongerthan ever and each one has shown a dramaticimprovement in school. It goes without sayingthat having the opportunity to reunite at monthlyactivities has not only had a positive andlife-changing impact on Jade, but also on her brothers.Spending valuable, quality time with each other hasbrought joy back into their lives, when it once seemedthat this would never again be the case.

On any given day, there are over 3,000 foster youth living in San Diego County. Funds raised from the Dream OnConcert Gala benefit foster youth like Jade. To purchase tickets or to learn about sponsorship opportunities please visit

Making A Difference

On Monday, June 3, Promises2Kids will celebrate its 11thAnnual Dream OnConcert Gala, presented by Kevin and Raegan Prior. This signature event was established at the home of Joan Waitt, who generously continued to host the event for ten years.

This year, the extraordinary private dinner and concert under the stars will be hosted at the Foxhill Estate, the home of Papa Doug and Geniya Manchester, for nearly 500 philanthropists, community and business leaders dedicated to making a difference in the lives of foster children.

Promises2Kids is a charity that has always been close to Papa Doug’s heart. He has championed foster youth from the very beginning, with the building and launch of the A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center. It is for these reasons that longtime supporters – Papa Doug and Geniya, will graciously host the event at their home. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception and be treated to an elegant dinner by Jeffrey Strauss – Executive Chef and Owner of Pamplemousse Grille. A private concert will immediately follow.
