The story of Monika Perez Castro is an inspiring one: a gorgeous woman, wife and mother that, despite living the tragedy of losing one of her sons, Ivan Andrei Rudametkin in an accident, is the most positive human being. Not only has she never given up but she consistently proves it with her actions. She loves life to the fullest and lives every day dedicated to her family. One way she has done this is by organizing respected tennis tournament in honor of her son, The Ivan Andrei Open at Estero Beach Resort in Ensenada, which is quickly gaining popularity and attracting top tennis players from around the world.
In addition to the tennis tournament, Monika Perez Castro and her siblings transformed an acre of land given to them by their parents into a successful restaurant and winery in Valle de Guadalupe. Today, it is known as LOMITA, restaurant TRASLOMITA, and Finca la Carrodilla organic winery. Castro has a great love for this land. “The team of Lomita and Carrodilla see it as a great passion and when that wine reaches the palate of someone and they like it, it is the greatest pleasure our family has”, Castro shares with Giving Back Magazine.
After the tragic loss of one her son, Monika has been able to move forward with the reminder of her son’s love and passion for the vineyard, tennis and God. The Ivan Andrei Open is a foundation created in his memory supporting youth to develop in sport, education, art and social values. The tournament is heavily promoted and has had many sponsors that have helped Baja California become recognized in the tennis world. In 2018, the tournament has many surprises and continues to bring great comfort to Monika Perez Castro allowing her to stay strong and keep her family united by keeping her faithful and driven.
