Connecting Communities.
Manchester Financial Group is proud to celebrate Molly Eldredge as she receives the first Anne Otterson Community Connector Award at Project Concern International’s (PCI) Hands Across Borders gala on November 4, 2017. Molly was chosen to receive the award for her outstanding service to PCI, her dedication to promote philanthropy, and her tireless work to inspire others to serve the community. The Community Connector Award honors the legacy of La Jolla luminary and PCI advocate Anne Otterson, who passed away last year. Anne was a shining example of how inspiring others to do good can change the lives of vulnerable children and families everywhere.
Molly became involved with PCI after her daughters Annie and Maddy visited their programs in India along with other students from The Bishop’s School. When Molly heard about the impact that PCI’s work has on vulnerable children and saw how her daughters’ worldview expanded because of their experience, she knew her life was about to change as well.
She set out to educate herself about health and development issues and PCI’s sustainable approach of working with communities to identify solutions to the challenges they face. Gradually, she took on the unofficial role of PCI ambassador. In 2013, Molly traveled to India on a PCI Vision Trip alongside several San Diego women, including Anne Otterson, and was inspired by PCI’s commitment to empowering people to improve their own lives. Anne saw Molly’s deep interest in PCI’s work and her natural ability to rally her community, and graciously asked her to chair PCI’s Hands Across Borders gala in 2014. As Chair, Molly introduced many new supporters to PCI and under her leadership, the gala was PCI’s most successful in the event’s 25-year history.
On another occasion, Molly traveled to see PCI’s community health work in Mexico, and this fall, she will visit the organization’s work in maternal and child health, women’s empowerment, and urban resilience programming in Guatemala. While she has been a tireless supporter of PCI’s global programs, she also champions the organization’s local causes, especially their anti-trafficking work. She has even opened her home to panel discussions on human trafficking in San Diego, helping her friends and neighbors understand the problem and how they can be a part of the solution.
We look forward to honoring Molly at Hands Across Borders as a voice for the vulnerable and an inspiration to us all. The gala will be held on November 4, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. For tickets and information, please visit www.pciglobal.org.
