Mission Fed Credit Union has been an engaged community partner for over 60 years, and its core mission has remained the same: Earning trust, investing in its members’ success, and caring for the community. It is the credit union’s way to achieve the double-bottom line goal of serving members and the community. The credit union is driving positive social impact throughout San Diego, and 2023 marked another great year of these efforts.
Mission Fed announced a 10-year partnership with the San Diego Symphony, the largest of its kind in the credit union’s history. In a celebration of two iconic San Diego-based brands coming together, the partnership and sponsorship works toward the betterment of the community. In recognition of the sponsorship, Mission Fed became the Official Credit Union of the San Diego Symphony and established the Mission Fed Community Green at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park.
“At Mission Fed, giving back to our members and the community is the centerpiece of who we are,” shared Debra Schwartz, President and CEO at Mission Fed. “We want our members to know that their membership makes a difference. By partnering with others who are doing good, we have a bigger collective impact in making San Diego better. We could not think of a more fitting partner than the San Diego Symphony.”
The arts continue to be one of the most under-funded categories of nonprofit giving, and through this partnership, Mission Fed aims to help make the arts more accessible to all. Mission Fed is working collaboratively with the Symphony and its community initiatives to reach youth in diverse communities. Other elements of the partnership include support of the Symphony’s High School Ambassador program, as well as the Music Connects program.
As food insufficiency remains a key issue in the county, Mission Fed once again supported The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank Food 4 Kids Backpack Program in the fight against child hunger. In partnership with its branches, members, and the communities they serve, Mission Fed’s fundraising efforts totaled over $120,000 – equal to 15,000 additional backpacks full of food to feed an elementary school-aged child all weekend long. This is one of Mission Fed’s favorite fundraising events and the organization is grateful for both members’ and employees’ incredible generosity.
Mission Fed’s growth included a new branch location in Del Mar Highlands. Mission Fed celebrated by donating to the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Mission Fed supports the San Diego Rescue Mission’s holiday feeding events in November and December, contributing $15,000 to the mission’s efforts. Mission Fed simultaneously ran a toy and gift drive benefitting La Maestra Community Health Centers and its families to make holidays brighter for children and families in need.
Mission Fed staff ends the year with its treasured annual Tree Decorating volunteer event at the San Diego Center for Children where employee teams bring joy to the Center’s children by decorating Christmas trees.
Mission Fed is proud to serve San Diego, as the largest member-owned, not-for-profit, full-service financial institution that enhances the lives of its members through financial education and services.
