The celebration of folk art, craft and design between both the States’ coasts is approaching the eighth and final exhibit of the Mingei’s 18-month series, AMERICAN ICONS. Displaying over three centuries of imagination, inspiration and innovation of the U.S.’s traditional and contemporary creative works, each state’s objects of American pride and spirit were gathered from the Museum’s permanent collection and private assemblages. It is workmanship with the purpose of utilization from a Hawaiian canoe paddle to Massachusetts’ centuries-old silver smith tradition. It is a vase, a basket, a quilt, a plate, it is… all-American crafters’ artworks and everything is useful.
