Giving the gift of education to Barrio Logan College Institute.

The first annual Learning & Lipstick event for education equity was a tremendous success. Held at the Katherine Cosmetics flagship store in Flower Hill Promenade, event attendees enjoyed makeovers, music and mini-lessons in math and grammar. Sponsored by two San Diego based companies, Winward Academy and Katherine Cosmetics, the fundraising event benefited Barrio Logan College Institute (BLCI) and its renowned education programs.

Barrio Logan College Institute was selected as the sponsored charity by Dr. Jennifer Winward, founder and CEO of Winward Academy, because of BLCI’s mission to give all students access to higher education by breaking the cycle of poverty and preparing underserved students to graduate as first-generation college students.

Winward Academy, widely considered the nation’s leading innovator in the education space, honors its philanthropic mission by collaborating with schools and foundations around the country to provide educational resources to underserved students. Resources like Winward Academy give students a tremendous advantage in their performance on standardized tests, in math class, and for college applications. Winward Academy is wholeheartedly committed to ensuring all students have that same opportunity to grow in their knowledge and confidence. By donating to programs like BLCI, they provide quality educational resources to all deserving students – regardless of their families’ financial resources.
Winward Academy donated access to its educational platform to all BLCI juniors. “I am thrilled with the academic opportunity made available to our students. Our juniors will now have the ability to study and review any and all college entrance exam topics, opening many more college doors than they would have had otherwise,” Barbara Chavez Ybarra, Chief Advancement Officer of BLCI shared with Giving Back Magazine.
