San Diego-based KCM Group is a construction management and consulting company founded in 2000 by Gordon Kovtun. With 25 years in the industry, Kovtun is known for his versatility and assertive representation on behalf of his clients. KCM Group has steadily grown under his leadership to provide a wide-range of construction management services for commercial, industrial, non-profit and residential clients.

Founded on the principle of representing the owner’s interests, KCM Group simplifies the process for owners by serving as a single point of contact throughout the design and construction process. The firm’s attention to detail and day-to-day management effectively guides clients through the intricacies of the construction process, providing expert guidance to manage costs and keep projects on schedule.

KCM Group has worked with some of the most recognizable names in San DiegoSycuan Casino, Pardee Homes, the San Diego Museum of Man and the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center. The firm also led the effort that successfully obtained City Council approval for the Plaza de Panama Project, proposed by Irwin Jacobs and the Plaza de Panama Committee to reclaim Balboa Park’s plaza for pedestrians and increase visitor access to the park.

Managing the overall development of custom estates has become one of the hallmarks of KCM Group. The firm has completed over $100 million worth of custom estate work in La Jolla and Del Mar alone. With both design professionals and engineering experts on staff, the firm is able to approach projects with technical expertise and attention to design detail. They have completed projects ranging in value from $500,000 to $25 million, and their work has been featured a number of times in architectural and design magazines throughout the region.

In addition to construction management services on both residential and commercial projects, KCM Group offers specialized consulting services in environmental compliance, construction claims (avoidance and resolution), forensic analysis and litigation support. The firm’s expertise in these fields is indispensable in both the day-to-day management of construction projects, as well as individual specialty consulting assignments.

Outside of his professional life, Kovtun dedicates many volunteer hours to important causes, many focusing on Balboa Park. He served as treasurer for the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and Vice Chair of the San Diego Museum of Man. He is currently Treasurer for the Balboa Park Conservancy. His wife, Annika, is a native of Norway and Kovtun has served as the Norwegian Consul for San Diego/Imperial Counties since 2004. In 2012 he was awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit for his efforts, the highest honor awarded to non-nationals for their service to Norway.

Under Kovtun’s stewardship, KCM Group has grown to be recognized as a results-oriented firm that oversees all aspects of the development process, from the start of design to the completion of construction. This expert management results in cost controls, time efficiencies and spectacular finished products for their clients.
