Dream On Concert Gala
For over 35 years, Promises2Kids has been providing support to children from the moment they come into foster care through adulthood. Thanks to the generosity of people like Jolene Perry, Promises2Kids has distributed over $25 million towards the care of more than 200,000 children who are in foster care due to abuse or neglect. Jolene is co-chairing this year’s “Dream On Concert Gala” featuring three time Grammy winner, Rob Thomas.
10 Things About Jolene Perry and Promises2Kids
#1 I grew up 20 minutes east of Seattle, in May Valley, a rural community on the border of Issaquah and Renton.
#2 The best advice I have been given is to treat others how you want to be treated… with care, kindness and understanding.
#3 I’ve ridden motorcycles since I was a little girl. I currently own 3 street bikes and many dirt bikes.
#4 I have always loved working with children, and giving back to our community in any way possible.
#5 I got involved with Promises2Kids, 5 years ago when I was asked to chair their Summer Gala. I’ve been chairing the same gala yearly ever since!
#6 I enjoy listening to the stories at the “Dream On Concert Gala” of the (now adult) foster youth and how our programs have impacted their lives. Promises2Kids “Something Special Fund” has been a lifeline for foster children like Daniel who has a rare form of autism. Daniel can’t speak but he loves music and will play his keyboard for hours. When his keyboard wore out, Promises2Kids bought Daniel a new electronic keyboard with headphones so he can play whenever he wants.
#7 Twelve or more children enter the foster care system every day in San Diego County due to abuse and neglect. Each year, Promises2Kids provides the tools necessary for over 3,000 foster youths to become productive members of society.
#8 In 2017, Promises2Kids reunited nearly 500 children with their brothers and sisters through Camp Connect. Many siblings are separated from each other while in foster care and the monthly Camp Connect activities are often the only chance they have to spend time together.
#9 To prepare foster youths for college, Promises2Kids Guardian Scholars program provides financial aid, mentoring, SAT courses, and peer support. The Guardian Scholars program has an 80% success rate for post high school education and graduation.
