Since the first Rendezvous In The Zoo back in 1984 to the organization’s 2016 centennial celebration, It Began With a Roar, well over $17 million has been raised. Some 900 guests gathered among flamingos, birds of prey and other animal ambassadors for the San Diego Zoo’s gala to benefit a new 21st century Children’s Zoo. RITZ revelers mingled with tropical birds, a cheetah, and a koala as well as their trainers. Conservation ambassador Joan Embery was on hand for a special animal presentation as guests were immersed with superstar animal murals, a lavish dinner and dancing well into the night making it a benefit to remember.
