Two exceptional women making an impact in San Diego

Barrio Logan College Institute recently celebrated its annual Opportunity for Impact fundraiser on Thursday, May 12. Over 250 philanthropists and community and business leaders gathered for an exquisite event to support BLCI’s after-school programs that prepare and enroll 100 percent of its students as the first generation in their families to attend college.

BLCI extends its sincere gratitude to the co-chairs of this year’s Opportunity for Impact, Ingrid de Llamas and Susy Villegas. Ingrid, the Director of Philanthropy and External Relations for the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego, and her family have been prominent supporters of BLCI and its mission of providing access to higher education to break the cycle of poverty in several of San Diego’s communities.

Susy, President of SVPR Communications, a public relations firm, along with her husband Pedro, has been an ardent proponent of higher education and a 12-year supporter of BLCI. Susy is currently serving as the first Latina to chair the board in the organization’s 26-year history and is working to strengthen critical infrastructure for smart growth of BLCI’s programs throughout San Diego.

Due to Ingrid and Susy’s steadfast dedication and hands-on approach, this year’s Opportunity for Impact was the most successful ever, raising significant funds to support students, from third graders to high schoolers, as they break new ground in their families’ journeys to college.

We all thank Ingrid and Susy for their exceptional leadership and for making lasting generational impact at BLCI and in the San Diego community!
