Giving Children & Their Families The Best Hope for A Cure
Gwynn Thomas began supporting Rady Children’s Hospital through an outreach program at San Diego Yacht Club called SailFest. SailFest brings children undergoing treatment for cancer and blood disorders at The Peckham Center, to the Club for a short boat cruise, BBQ and festivities. These children inspired Gwynn to do more, so in 2014, she founded “Race for Rady”, a regatta and dinner benefiting Rady Children’s Hospital Peckham Center. For her efforts, Gwynn received Rady’s “Miracle Maker of the Year” award.
10 Things About Gwynn Thomas & Rady Children’s Hospital Copley Psychiatric Emergency Department
#1 “I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles. The first home I purchased was a 1914 Bungalow in the foothills of Pasadena that faced the San Gabriel mountains. I still miss those mountains and that lovely home.”
#2 “I was the youngest of three children. My sister was 9 years older than me and I was fascinated by the frilly dresses she wore because I was a tomboy. My hair was short and I sometimes was mistaken as a little boy.”
#3 “My first job was working for my Aunt on weekends when she had really large catering jobs. I learned a lot from working for her, mostly that I was not cut out to be a waitress!”
#4 “I love our local Italian Restaurant in Point Loma, “Pomodoro”. It makes me feel like I’m on holiday back in Italy.”
#5 “My favorite movie is “The Life of Pi” – a visually stunning and emotional tale of perseverance. It’s a story of survival, self-discovery and faith and how the human spirit can be resurrected after the worst tragedies imaginable to find love and happiness again.”
#6 “I love both dogs and cats and have been lucky to have both as pets all my life. My dog Sarge is my best buddy and follows me everywhere. I never thought I would own a white fluffy dog. I was hoping to adopt a Labrador Retriever from “Labs and More”. Sarge was at the bottom of their website page – he was under “See More”.”
#7 “The best advice I have been given was 23 years ago when I got engaged to my husband – “Don’t Keep Score”. I’ve found not keeping score in marriage and life is the secret to happiness.”
#8 “I was an avid birdwatcher for many years. They are incredibly diverse and beautiful creatures. They are magical.”
#9 “If I could have lunch with any person, it would be the Dali Lama of course. Who wouldn’t want to have lunch with someone who knows the purpose of life is “Happiness”.”
#10 “My parents were very active in our local church and we learned at a young age about giving and helping others.”
