You may have driven past this building many times and wondered what the unique, New England style building was doing at the side of the freeway in Carlsbad.
That building, styled both inside and out after an original New England inn, is the Green Dragon Tavern & Museum. Home to an awe inspiring collection of documents and artifacts dating back to the Founding Fathers of this great nation, it is a unique combination of restaurant, museum and event space.
Nation’s Founding History
The Green Dragon was founded by a former teacher who believes that most of our nation’s founding history, while so readily accessible on the East Coast, is often overlooked west of the Mississippi. Wanting to share his private collection featuring documents signed by over 15 signers of the Declaration of Independence, he laid the groundwork for what would become the West Coast Headquarters of the Revolution!
Inside, you will find antiquities, original artifacts and primary source documents, spanning from the Pilgrim through Revolutionary War eras of our nation’s history. Nowhere else on the West Coast can you see original documents signed by Alexander Hamilton, John Adam, Sam Adams, Robert Morris, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Daniel Webster, William Bradford of the Mayflower Pilgrims, and Ralph Waldo Emmerson to name a few.
The Green Dragon Tavern Historical Foundation of California is a 501(c)(3) organization that operates the free admission museum, field trips, membership programs and community events. The Museum is a popular venue for private events from nonprofit galas to corporate meetings, weddings and rehearsal dinners, military functions to social celebrations and more.
Another unique feature is the ability to combine your museum experience with dining in the highly rated restaurant featuring delicious American Comfort food allowing you to have a rewarding and enjoyable experience for mind, body and Spirit of ’76.
