Summer is here and with the warm weather, it is nice to get some vacation time in. If traveling is in your plans, here are a few tips that will help you stay healthy and stress free.

Preparation is Key

I always start packing one week ahead, no matter how small the trip is. I leave the suitcase open in my guest room and that way, when something pops into my head, I can make sure I pack it. I do not like the stress of last-minute packing; I like to travel light. The advantage of getting away is that nobody knows you, so you can wear the same pair of shorts and no one cares, but then again, who am I kidding I do the same thing at home.

Jet Lag

Flying somewhere can make you feel groggy and a little off. If you travel overseas, it really affects your internal clock. However, there are ways to manage it so that it does not interfere with your life. Stay hydrated, eat a healthy diet and try adjusting to the time zone right away. You can do this by avoiding the urge to sleep during the day and by taking a brisk walk as soon as you get to the hotel.

Vitamin C

If you are trapped on an airplane with sick people, you are more likely to fall ill. It is important to take vitamin C to boost your immune system.

Make sure you apply every two hours, not just in the morning, to prevent sun damage. If I could turn back time, I would have been more diligent about applying sunblock.

Exercise and Eat Healthy

Vacation should be enjoyed, but it should not be a free pass to sabotage your routine. No matter where you go in the world, you can always find healthy food options and put in the time to move around. Even if you have 10 minutes a day to devote to exercise, do it. You will feel better immediately and more energized. And lastly, make sure you indulge in moderation.

Lower Expectations

Trying to keep everyone happy can get stressful. Make sure you lower expectations and just hope for the best. When travelling with my family, I always make sure it is all about them and keeping them happy. Keep the focus on your loved ones, instead of just what you want to do, and everything will run a lot more smoothly.

Hopefully now you will be set to have the best possible vacation and make memories that will last a lifetime.
