The Ultimate Gastronomic Experience.
Flavors of San Diego Culinary Gala is set for Sunday September 24, 2017 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. A culinary event that spotlights over twenty of San Diego’s premier chefs, the gala creates a one-of-a-kind gourmet experience for each guest. The evening begins with a wine reception and silent auction, at the end of which guests will join their cuisine aficionado at their table for the evening. Under the leadership of Chef Jeffrey Strauss with Pamplemousse Grille, this year’s Chef Chair, each participating chef will prepare a customized five-course gourmet dinner cooked table-side. Guests enjoy these signature cuisines and wine pairings, while also participating in a live auction for trips, surprises and parties. Adding to the evening, each chef creates their own ambiance at their respective tables with personally inspired themes including exquisite table centerpieces, decorations, gifts for their guests and much more. Nowhere else can San Diegans be spoiled by these culinary masters – creating a menu that goes above and beyond the usual restaurant fare – while also benefiting a worthy cause.
Going on its fourteenth year, Flavors of San Diego is considered the premiere culinary fundraiser in San Diego and it is the American Liver Foundation’s largest fundraising event of the year. Joe Panetta, President & CEO of BIOCOM will serve as the event’s Honorary Chair, with Clint Bell keeping the evening exciting as the emcee and auctioneer. This year’s Physician Honoree will be Catherine Frenette, MD, Medical Director of Liver Transplantation with Scripps Center for Organ Transplantation. The foundation will also be presenting an Innovations Award to Steven J. Mento, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Conatus Pharmaceuticals for his organization’s ongoing support of the ALF and focus on the development of medicines to treat liver disease, specifically nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Between 30 to 40 percent of adults in the United States have NAFLD, and about 3 to 12 percent have NASH, a more severe form of the disease.
Your liver is a vital organ that performs many essential functions. Liver disease affects 1 in 10 Americans in their lifetime. The American Liver Foundation is dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of viral hepatitis and other liver diseases through research, education and advocacy on behalf of those affected by or at risk of liver disease. Proceeds from the Gala will directly benefit the American Liver Foundation’s Pacific Coast Division, helping the Foundation in the fight against all liver diseases. Because of the support of these tremendous chefs and community leaders, ALF is locally able to continue to support the community through a variety of free services including: conducting liver educational programs for children and adults; promoting clinical trials information; referring to our HelpLine (800-GO-LIVER); distributing informational packets about liver disease; organizing liver wellness educational conferences; arranging professional and patient liver updates throughout the year; providing referrals to doctors in the area; supporting research awards program; and much more.
