We Are Together For A Better Beginning
In 1963, Jackie Kennedy delivered her son Patrick, 5-1/2 weeks prematurely. The medical profession did not have the tools to help the newborn son of the most powerful man in the world but today, treatment of Patrick’s condition would be considered routine and survival expected.
By providing key resources to the families of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) babies, Miracle Babies is changing the NICU experience from one of fear and helplessness to one of empowerment and positivity. Vince Heald is co-chairing Miracle Babies 9th Annual Gala “Minuit à Versailles”, proceeds from which will help Miracle Babies continue their life saving programs as well as reduce NICU admissions through prevention, education and research.
10 Things About Vince Heald & Miracle Babies
#1 I grew up in the scenic wine country of Livermore, California where my wonderful mother, Evelyn still lives. I moved to San Diego in 1983 to attend San Diego State University and found myself in the public relations business shortly after graduation.
#2 My first job was working at Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore when I was in high school and during the summer months while on college breaks. I love plants and landscaping and truly enjoyed that chapter of my life.
#3 Clinton and I enjoy old world dining which has become so rare in San Diego. Old Trieste has remained one of our favorite haunts.
#4 Clinton and I have a beautiful red tabby named Carina who is such a joy to us.
#5 I have been a proud, passionate supporter of Miracle Babies for the past eight years. Philanthropy has become a passion for me and for my public relations firm, Beck Ellman Heald.
#6 I was introduced to Miracle Babies founders Sean and Marjan Daneshmand by my dear, long-time friend Sharon Smith, fundraiser extraordinaire. Sean and Marjan are like family to Clinton and me and we cherish our personal time together with them.
#7 Dr. Sean Daneshmand is a board-certified obstetrician with extensive experience caring for women with high-risk pregnancies. Inspired by his personal experience in the NICU with his daughter Natalie, and witnessing the struggles of many low-income families, Dr. Daneshmand decided to do something about it.
#8 One in ten babies is born prematurely in the United States every year and preterm birth is the #1 cause of infant mortality worldwide. To reverse this trend, Miracle Babies has provided resources to over 2,932 NICU families.
#9 Our gala is one of the most spectacular events of the year in San Diego. Chair Brittany Hahn is leading the gala committee, with Co-Chairs Anna Houssels, Elaine Becerra, Andi Neugarten and me. Moe Razi-Mulcahy and Tim Mulcahy will serve as Honorary Chairs.
#10 It is moving to see hundreds of guests gather together to support the families and newborns that we serve. By intervening and providing key resources during the weeks following a child’s birth, Miracle Babies has the potential to positively impact health outcomes for an entire generation of children.
