A Child Heard, A Life Changed
Funds raised through Starry Starry Night will benefit Voices for Children’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, which provides life-changing advocacy to children in San Diego County’s foster care system. CASAs are matched with a foster child or sibling group and work to ensure each child’s individual needs are met. CASA volunteers offer stability and consistency during an often scary and confusing time. For over 20 years, the Farrell Family has been helping Voices for Children transform the lives of foster children by providing them with the resources they need to reach their potential.
10 Things About Lisette Farrell & Voices for Children
#1 I grew up in Panama, I have two older brothers and my whole family still lives in Panama. At age 112, my great aunt is the oldest person in Panama and the 94th oldest person in the world.
#2 My favorite restaurant in San Diego is Addison at the Grand Del Mar. Their tasting menu with wine pairing is fantastic!
#3 I am definitely a dog person. I absolutely adore our dog, Nico.
#4 The best advice I have been given was from my dad: “Always pursue your passions and dreams with ambition, but never be arrogant while doing so”.
#5 I have always loved serving others. In college, I volunteered on the board of the Student Counsel and visited Panama’s Children’s Hospital to bring a little bit of happiness to children battling cancer.
#6 We have been supporting Voices for Children since we moved to San Diego 18 years ago. My father-in-law was supporting Voices even before we arrived!
#7 This year, Voices for Children will serve every child in San Diego County’s foster care system. From the moment a child enters foster care in San Diego County, Voices for Children staff and volunteers are actively engaged in ensuring they receive the support and resources they need.
#8 Mick and I were guests at a Starry Starry Night and we fell in love with the cause. Some of my favorite memories are dancing to Jason Mraz and Pink Martini, one of our favorite “world music” bands.
#9 My favorite part of the gala is seeing the featured speakers – former foster kids and hearing how the life-changing gift of a CASA improved their lives dramatically.
#10 Last year, former foster youth, Rosie, and her CASA, Dawna, were featured in a video. Rosie, one of seven siblings, first entered the foster care system at the age of three. Rosie’s CASA helped transform her life by offering consistent support and encouraging her to pursue her hobbies and interests.
