Mother jazz’s offspring has come to fuse spoken word, dance and even hip-hop keeping the rhythmic step of San Diego and Tijuana’s landscape groovin’. Born out of our own city’s streets, warehouses and clubs, our own contemporary playwright Richard Montoya, jazz trumpet master Gilbert Castellanos and The Rep’s Sam Woodhouse present a visual history of region’s cool music scene. Federal Jazz Project celebrates the songs and music, from 1959 to now, through unforgettable stories, many untold, of musicians who have created our diverse jazz-influenced frontier. Feel, see and hear this tribute in all its glory, it’s our story, our history.
