With that in mind, I hope you will enjoy it in moderation because it may surprise you that a lot of the food you like, and we eat on Valentine’s Day, is actually healthy. Here is a list of foods that are good for you:

SALMON – If you are out to dinner or want to cook something special for your significant other, salmon is always a great option as it is full of omega-3 and packed with vitamins and minerals. A 4-ounce piece contains 236 percent of the daily recommended value of Vitamin B12, fatty acids that are good for you and it is full of protein and potassium.

FILET MIGNON – A great source of in protein, which our bodies need to build and repair tissue, as well as make enzymes and hormones to produce antibodies to fight infections. However, eat in moderation and not every day as it is high in saturated fat that can clog arteries. Make your portion no more than 3 ounces.

BRUSSELS SPROUTS – Who does not love Brussels sprouts as a side dish? Well, I am sure some do not, but this is a great vegetable to accompany your meal and it is full of nutrients, rich in protein, fiber and is high in anti-oxidants that protect you against some cancers. Brussels sprouts are also high in Vitamin C.

DARK CHOCOLATE – Chocolate always gets a bad rap, but if choose wisely, it is actually good for you. Dark chocolate has health benefits if eaten in moderation, and you balance out your caloric intake as it actually lowers blood pressure. It is also a great anti-oxidant.

RED WINE – Some studies have shown that men who drink four or more glasses of red wine per week have a nearly 50 percent less risk of prostate cancer than non-drinkers. The red grapes that are used to make red wine can lower your cholesterol. It also contains antioxidants that protect your heart and can boost your brain.
