Many of you will recognize this year’s Charity Ball Chairwoman Clarice Perkins from the many charitable events she attends throughout the year, but you may not know all that she has done for our community.
A graduate of San Diego State and Pepperdine University, Clarice has been actively involved in charitable work in the community since the late 1990’s after being a professor in Idaho. Helping others is a legacy she inherited from her parents, her father was still active when he was 83 driving down to a poor Tijuana neighborhood and distributing food and clothing.
Clarice has been privileged to work with these amazing non-profit groups: Rady Children’s Hospital; Planned Parenthood; Las Primeras, a group of women dedicated to a legacy of compassionate giving; and FOCUS (Friends of Children United Society), a group of mostly Coronado residents centered on improving the quality of life for needy and abused children in San Diego County. She has also chaired the Zoo’s RITZ Gala.
Clarice tells Giving Back Magazine, “I felt honored to be asked to Chair the 105th Anniversary Charity Ball. It is a grand tradition and it is my pleasure to support a San Diego treasure–Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.”
When not volunteering her time, Clarice spends time with her husband Bill, her high school sweetheart and husband of 52 years. They enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren, traveling and reading. Together they enjoy Balboa Park, the many theaters with outstanding plays, the fabulous restaurants, walking along the Bay and entertaining friends and family.
When you give to others, you receive much more back.
