For over 75 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego has been inspiring and enabling youth to achieve academic and personal success. Chris Burt started volunteering for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego in 1998 and is chairing their signature fundraising event this year.
10 Things About Chris Burt and The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego
#1 I was born and raised in Escondido. My first job was a bank teller at Security Pacific Bank. It was supposed to be a part time job while going to school at night and 28 years later, I am still in banking.
#2 I met my wife while working as a teller. She was a customer and I told my manager that I would like to go on a date with her. My manager called her to update her information so I could ask her out. After a very nervous first date, we got engaged six months later and will be married 23 years this year.
#3 I love the water and enjoy boating with the family. I was an avid surfer until learning to waterski and wakeboard.
#4 The Boys Club of San Diego was established in Logan Heights in 1941 and has now grown to be the second largest Boys and Girls Club organization in California, serving youth in 18 sites county-wide.
#5 The club offers youth what they need and want most – adults who respect and listen to them in a safe environment.
#6 One of my favorite stories is about a 14-year-old member who, within two years from enrolling in the Club, went from a 1.0 GPA to a 3.2! What a wonderful transformation from a youth who always thought that school just wasn’t for him. Now he dreams of going to college and serving as an example to his younger siblings.
#7 It is an honor to serve as this year’s Event Chair knowing that all of our hard work directly translates into life changing moments for the kids we serve.
#8 We have kids from the club who will greet attendees and volunteer throughout the evening. The program really shows attendees our impact on the kids and their future.
#9 We are excited to offer a live performance by STARSHIP featuring Mickey Thomas who will sing their classic rock hits – “We Built This City”, “Sara”, and “Nothing’s Gonna To Stop Us Now”.
#10 Our auction contains some amazing items such as an Antarctica Peninsula Adventure, a journey to Machu Picchu and a seven-day luxury vacation at Los Cabo San Lucas. You can go online to preview silent auction items two weeks prior to the event.
